Rotary Santa Claus Parade

2020: Cancelled

Out of concern for the health and safety of our community and in accordance with APH guidelines, we have made the decision to cancel this year's Rotary Santa Claus Parade.

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie encourages the community to keep wearing their masks, washing their hands, and to enjoy this special time with family.

Sensory Friendly Block
Events that are widely viewed as fun for the whole family can be overwhelming and near intolerable for children with sensory difficulties – and parades are no exception!

That is why this year’s parade is including a Sensory Friendly block located from Bruce Street to Dennis Street on the North side of the road for families with children who experience distress dealing with sensory stimulation.

All float entries will be instructed against the use of sirens, air horns, and car horns along this portion of the parade route.

The public is still encouraged to stand in this block, but asked to be cognizant of what we are trying to do.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What do I need to enter the Rotary Santa Claus parade?
A completed application form, a certificate of general commercial liability insurance with the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie listed as additionally insured, and a whole lot of holiday spirit!

What is general commercial liability insurance, and how do I get a certificate?
All businesses and most organizations have general commercial liability insurance. You can email your insurer, “I need a certificate of general liability insurance with the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie named as additionally insured” (you’ll need to include our address), and they will be able to get you what you need. If you are a school from ADSB or HSCDSB, then we already have a certificate of insurance from your board, so ignore this step.

What if I don’t have general commercial liability insurance?
You can find a business or organization to “sponsor” your float. They will provide you with the certificate of general liability insurance with the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie (along with our address) listed as additionally insured from their insurer, and then you just have to list them along with your group’s name on the top of the application form.

How do I find out where to line up?
Rotarians will be awaiting you on the night of the parade at the corner of Queen and Elizabeth. They will tell you what your group’s number is. We suggest getting there around 5:15, as entries that arrive and are set up after 5:30 will not be eligible for judging. The parade will begin 6pm sharp!

Is there a theme?
The Santa Claus parade does not have a theme like the Rotary Community Day Parade does. Feel free to express your holiday spirit in your own way! We encourage getting creative with costumes, music, lights, etc.

How tall can my float be?
The maximum height on Queen Street is 13.5 feet.
